Rainy Season

The other night I was biking home from the local eating/drinking spot and as I felt my way through the dark, on the path by the river that runs to my house, I was reminded of that day of biking adventure in Cambodia. Biking towards Angkor Wat in the darkest of night before the sun rose was just like biking home in Kedoin after dinner. Except in Kedoin I was praying I wouldn't accidentally bike over a snake or into a gigantic spider's web.

I've been having a lot of barbecues lately and spending a lot of time sick with various bugs I catch. One of my eikaiwa members left his really sweet bbq at my house. It's huge and has a wooden thing around it you can rest your drinks and food on, it's perfect. Kedoin in the perfect little place to have a laid back bbq and "enjoy relax time".

(A long time ago) I got new glasses through a process which almost left me fine stumbling around blind. Every time I thought it was over they said, "excuse me, please come back again? [why are you so impatient? this is a fifty step process. can you get glasses in under one hour or something like that in your country? you are so impatient, this is only your fourth visit to the same place to seemingly do the same thing even though your eye sight probably hasn't changed in a week.]"
well... it wasn't that bad, but it was pretty ridiculous! I actually didn't mind so much and found visiting the hospital so many times pretty hilarious. Over the weeks the eye doctor and I developed a really good system of communicating, through my jisho (dictionary), writing, and miming (the most fun) we became quite efficient by the end of it all.

In a couple weeks I leave for Tokyo to do an internship at the Canadian Embassy. I'll be there 3 weeks, then I'll go to Sapporo for 1 week to study Japanese. Then I'll do some camping at an Ainu (natives of Japan) festival. Then it'll be back to Kagoshima for an Summer English Camp! woo! I think all the kids that are there have been sent by their parents! It's city wide, so there'll be kids from all over Satsumasendai. I'm hoping there will be some from my schools, that'd be nice. So I'll be away for about a month, gallivanting (getting lost) around Tokyo and Sapporo.
Kinda makes it okay that I'm missing Vancouver Folk Fest and summer and biking and picnics at the park and the beach and I'm gonna stop now. But really, it does. If I was sitting in a office all day in the hot humid Kagoshima heat, that's probably all I'd think about (besides trying to stay awake). But this summer is gonna be exciting!

Since when did my blog become so confessional?
Let's end it on this, today's weather (the day I decided to bike to work for once):
* cloudy with afternoon windy torrential downpours (typhoon style)
* temperature just under 30 degrees Celsius
* and humidity just under 80%
It's summertime!!!
